Dubai unveils the worlds tallest building

first_img<a href=”” target=”_blank”><img src=”;cb=INSERT_RANDOM_NUMBER_HERE&amp;n=a5c63036″ border=”0″ alt=””></a> Source = e-Travel Blackboard: J.L The world’s tallest building was officially opened yesterday in Dubai with thousands of onlookers.In an evening inauguration ceremony, the tower welcomed itself to the city with a grand water and light show and released a shower of fireworks from its sides.The building comprises of 200 storeys and stands 828 metres high, twice the height of New York’s Empire State building.It will contain luxury apartments and offices as well as a hotel designed by Giorgio Armani. It was also named Burj Khalifa after the ruler of the neighbouring emirate of Abu Dhabi, who had helped bail out the developer last year.The building and its 500-acre developed surroundings cost approximately $22 billion according to the Associated Press. Burj Khalifa’s opening comes at a tough time for Dubai economy which was rocked last November when one of its largest government-owned conglomerates announced it couldn’t pay off its debts.However, the building’s owners told ABC that more than 90 per cent of space has been sold.The building will open its doors to the public in February.last_img
