The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a week long “spring cleanup” event from May 12-19. Shannon Davis, President of the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce: “Spring has sprung, and we have the yellow bags, they are available until we run out and are free.” Davis: “We’ve got a little bit of a change this year, Alaska Waste has upgraded all of their equipment, and they can no longer rear-load their trucks. So, it’s not longer safe for them to pick up the bags from the highway.” Both the Kenai and Soldotna Chambers of Commerce are encouraging residents to get outside and get involved in the roadside clean up efforts. New this year you won’t be seeing the little yellow trash bags appearing on the sides of local highways like in previous years. The bags will need to be taken to a transfer site or dump station.
