Sprint adds 10 premium data fee to every 3G Everything subscribers bill

first_imgIf you’re a Sprint customer currently subscribed to one of their 3G Everything Data Plans, hey, guess what? Next time you upgrade your phone, you’re going to get boned. The nation’s third-largest wireless carrier has just announced that they’ll be charging every 3G Everything data subscriber an extra $10 a month in the way of a “premium data” charge.AdChoices广告Sprint’s being very defensive about this new data charge. In the press release, which you can read below, Sprint starts off by noting that smartphone consumers are using a lot more data, but then quickly starts ranting about the tiered data plans of the competition.I mean, frankly, yeah, we agree: we’d rather pay an extra $10 a month for unlimited data then have to deal with tiered data plans. That said, what makes Sprint’s move particularly strange is that, with the addition of the new premium data plan, every Sprint 3G customer is paying the same for their data plan as the company’s 4G subscribers.Who knows? Maybe that’s the point: next time you upgrade your phone, Sprint wants you on a 4G one. Still, this is a pretty strange way to go about shifting your customer base to a new technology.[via Engadget]last_img
